This minor service involves regular maintenance. On the suspension fork, it’s called the lower leg service: remove the stanchions, drain the old lubricant, install new wiper rings, and fill with fresh oil. On the shock absorber, it’s the air chamber service. Both keep the seals and sliding surfaces lubricated—and protect precisely those parts that cannot be repaired.

The major service also includes the suspension and air suspension system and, depending on the manufacturer, is due every 125 to 200 driving hours or once a year.

You can bring in your fork or shock already removed. Or you can bring in your entire bike: For €24, we’ll take care of removal and reinstallation—and use the opportunity to perform two checks that aren’t possible at all while the parts are installed.

• Headset Check. Once the fork is removed, we clean the headset bearings and regrease them—before any creaking starts or the frame gets damaged. We replace worn bearings upon request.

• Rear End Check. Without the shock, we move the rear end by hand and can immediately feel if any bearings are rough or seized. When it's installed, you'll hardly notice them.

RockShox recommends a minor service every 50 riding hours; Fox recommends one at least every 125 hours or once a year. If you ride a lot in bike parks, in wet and muddy conditions, or on an e-MTB, you should have it serviced sooner. To put this in perspective: if you ride four hours on the trails per week, you’ll reach 50 hours in about three months.

1. Book an appointment online. Choose the day you’ll bring your bike—or your fork and shock, once they’ve been removed—to Maxvorstadt.

2. Joint Inspection. When you drop off your bike, we’ll take a look at the suspension fork and shock together, determine the right seal kit, and give you the final price. Only then will we get started.

3. Service & Report. In the digital report, you can see what we did and what we found inside.

Sure—with the right tools, oil, and kit, you can do it. With us, you’ll also get a trained professional’s look inside your bike, a headset and rear triangle check, and your bike back in no time.

Yes, in that case, the flat fee for removal and reinstallation doesn't apply. If you bring in the whole bike, we'll check the headset and rear bottom bracket at the same time.

A light film of oil on the stanchions is normal during the first few rides—just wipe it off. Since the fork and shock are responding more sensitively again, it’s worth doing a quick check of the air pressure and rebound damping.

Yes—and that’s exactly where it pays off: More weight and more elevation gain per ride mean more work for the fork and shock. The prices are the same; only with the “fully-profi” package is there an additional e-bike surcharge of 35 €.
